Project Overview
The Rotary Club of Placencia is supporting essential sanitation and infrastructure improvements at Richard Quinn R.C. Primary School in Georgetown, Stann Creek District, Belize. Clean, safe bathroom facilities and secure access pathways are fundamental to student health, dignity, and learning, yet the school’s current facilities are deteriorated and unsafe.
This project will rehabilitate the school’s bathroom facilities and construct a concrete walkway to ensure safe access to classrooms and restrooms, particularly during the rainy season when flooding creates serious health and safety risks. The initiative directly supports Rotary’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) area of focus by improving hygiene standards, reducing illness, and creating a safer school environment for students and staff.

Why it Matters
Unsafe sanitation facilities directly impact student health, attendance, and dignity, particularly for young children in rural, low-income communities. Broken toilets, poor drainage, and flooding increase the risk of illness, injury, and absenteeism, undermining students’ ability to learn in a safe environment. By restoring clean bathrooms and creating safe walkways, this project improves daily hygiene, reduces health risks, and ensures students can attend school with confidence and comfort. The improvements will have an immediate and lasting impact.
