Corozal Farmers Market

Project Overview

The Rotary Club of Corozal is leading a transformative renovation of the waste management area at the Corozal Farmers Market — one of the town's most visible and frequently used community gathering spaces — to create a cleaner, safer, and more modern environment for vendors, sanitation workers, and the public.

The existing cinderblock trash enclosure has created years of ongoing challenges: overflowing waste, exposure to the elements, unsafe working conditions for sanitation personnel, and a disposal system that has diminished both the appearance and functionality of the market. This project will demolish that structure and replace it with a newly designed covered waste management pavilion featuring large-capacity collection bins and dedicated recycling stations — modernizing how waste is handled at the heart of Corozal's community commerce.

More than a physical upgrade, this renovation is an opportunity to shift community attitudes toward waste management, inspiring civic pride, environmental responsibility, and a higher standard for public infrastructure across Corozal.

Why it Matters

The Corozal Farmers Market is where the community comes together — for commerce, connection, and daily life. Yet for years, its waste disposal area has been one of the market's most persistent problems: scattered litter, unpleasant odors, visual pollution, and working conditions that put sanitation personnel at unnecessary risk.

This renovation directly addresses all of it. A covered pavilion with organized waste and recycling stations will improve daily operations, contain odors, reduce litter, and create a safer, more dignified working environment for the people who keep the market clean. Vendors will benefit from a more professional, welcoming space. Visitors will experience a market that reflects the community's pride.

But the impact reaches further than the market itself. By introducing a visible, well-designed model of modern waste management infrastructure, the project opens the door to broader conversations about recycling, cleanliness, and community stewardship throughout Corozal — demonstrating that public spaces can be functional, environmentally responsible, and genuinely attractive at the same time.
