Pawsitivity: The Humane Society of Toledo District, Belize Needs Your Support
Welcome to Pawsitivity, The Humane Society of Toledo District, Belize. We are an affiliate of the Placencia Humane Society (PHS) which has been partnering with Believe in Belize for decades to support animal health and welfare in southern Belize. The partnership with Pawsitivity started in 2025, and we are very appreciative of the support from the Placencia Humane Society (PHS).
Please help us reach our fundraising goals for 2026:
Hello to all of our past and new generous supporters,
Pawsitivity, the Toledo Humane Society of Belize, has successfully offered five clinics and one vaccination event since it’s official start in May, 2025. Dr. Baptist, his two assistants and Pawsitivity volunteers teamed up to perform a total of 153 spays/neuters, along with 3 wormings, 3 TVT treatments, 3 skin issues and 3 euthanasias for the pets of the 40,000 citizens of Punta Gorda town and 32 surrounding villages.
Out of the 153 spays/neuters, 79 were funded by supporters on BinB to cover the animals cared for by the only two rescue missions in the district, Bonanza Animal Rescue Center and No Paws Left Behind Sanctuary. Both of these dedicated rescue groups care for approximately 40 dogs and 30 cats each, and either rescue dogs from the bush themselves or find unwanted animals dropped off in front of their properties.
Pawsitivity, under the wing of the Placencia Humane Society, has been getting calls asking anxiously when the next clinic will be offered. We are now in the process of organizing our first of five 2026 clinics, a 2- day clinic for the first weekend of March, and are once again reaching out for your support.
The budget for 1 clinic is as follows:
- Spays/neuters for 30 rescues $3,900 bzd
- Lunches for vet team/volunteers $190
- One night stay for vet team $150
- Case of 5in1 vaccines $350
- Transporting tables and garbage
- Total for one clinic $4,740 bzd= 2,370 US
Our goal for 5 clinics in 2026 is $11,850 US. We appreciate any donation, large or small!

Our journey as a Humane Society:
For many years, the Humane Society of Punta Gorda Belize has held monthly vet clinics that serviced not only town folk, but also the 32 surrounding Mayan villages. Although more and more locals have come to understand the importance of spaying and neutering their dogs and cats and administering the annual vaccines, there are still those who abandon puppies born to their unspayed female dogs. In Punta Gorda, unfenced yards enable dogs to roam free around town, which often leads to the spread of venereal disease.
The Humane Society Board members are transitioning to more personal endeavors and a new crop of young, local animal lovers are committed to carrying on the work, creating a broad animal rights mandate which will include monthly clinics, support for two local animal rescue groups, free treatments for those owners in need, public education and fundraising.
The animal rescue groups, Bonanza and No Paws Left Behind Sanctuary, each currently care for 30 dogs and cats. They are also called upon to capture ill, homeless dogs that need treatment or have to be euthanized.
Our first clinic was held in May, 2025.
We need animal-loving donors to help realize our goals. No donation is too small or too large. Donations made on this Pawsitivity page will go to Pawsitivity, The Human Society of Toledo District, Belize. Thank you!
