We believe every child in Belize should have access to an education and the tools they need to learn.
Too many students in Belize go through school with no access to computers either in school or after school. More tragically, some students do not go to school at all because their families cannot afford supplies. Of the students in school, too many are behind their grade level in something as basic as reading. Our Education Pillar strives to alleviate some of those issues.

Computers Cause
Many schools in Belize do not have computers. This means that thousands of students do not have access to computers during school time and the problem is compounded by the fact that most of those students do not have access to computers after school either. On average we provide about 50 desktops / laptops per year, but we need to drastically increase this number. For US $100 ($200 with accessories - e.g. headset, camera, software and shipping) we can provide a school or a village community center with a refurbished computer (includes monitor, mouse and keyboard) or laptop. Each computer helps 5 to 20 students depending on the school / village size.

Scholarships Cause
One of the most common misconceptions is that education is completely free in Belize. There are private and public schools (free tuition). However, there are numerous other expenses, e.g. uniforms, books, supplies, lunch meals, transportation. Students that cannot afford these expenses often end up not going to school. These issues are magnified for high school and beyond. Believe in Belize's approach to addressing this issue is through partnering with local nonprofits dedicated to providing scholarships, need or merit based. On average about 50 kids / year receive some sort of financial aid, but we need to drastically increase this number. Our goal is to distribute through our partners a minimum of US $100 scholarship per student.

School Supplies Cause
Inadequate student supplies are a chronic problem in Belize, whether in school or at home. In some cases, children cannot even go to school because they lack the needed supplies. This cause is intended to assist whenever possible by having funds available for a given need. As a general guide, we need US $100 for basic supplies for 10 kids, $1,000 for one classroom's common supplies, $2,500 for one school's common supplies. Whenever possible, we purchase the requested items locally to minimize shipping costs and support local merchants.
